One of our neighbors at Green Lane Reservoir believes that he has found stones that mark a "horizon calendar" that dates back to 1,500 B.C. An interesting story. The winter solstice markers lined up perfectly. He would be happy to show you his research.Happy Holidays aruth

The cold slips in; there’s a chill in the air that steels these old bones and skin. Tall trees baron to the bough lean with the wind tuning-up but not yet howling. It will come!

Keeping all indoors near the stove with hats, gloves, and boots ready for venturing out. This is the solace period of life when deprived the feel of grass beneath our feet we warm the socks before retiring to bed.

Another season arriving without invitation but creeping inward. We succumb and make adjustments in our routines. Time for mending, reading, listening to the words of the hymns. Time for baking bread, cookies with sugar on top and dumplings for the stew.

Time, sometimes nothing but time. Out comes the Bible and words of wisdom. Deep thoughts that bring new conviction. A new diet, of course, that will be left for good at the first meeting with friends. Tea and Cocoa sooth the soul from the perilous weather upon retuning home.

But what of the value in this season? Wouldn’t we be better severed with feel of sun warming us day in and out? Why the need to retreat into our caves and hibernate? Could it be that we were created to be one whole person requiring a multitude of experience to find our way? Some can focus regardless of external circumstance. Some remain fixed upon their Mission in life.

For most of us; we are the mob. Scattering, gathering, bringing with us our opinions, positions, often advise. Making noises wanting to be heard. See me…..Touch me….Love me as I am. Even though I am a shadow of the greatness that belongs to us all. I am a part of your world. I am being shaped to fit the whole.

Winter is arriving and will give way to Spring and so continues the cycle. The seasons of life that come and go; God made them all. We know beauty lies within which can be realized only after we have wrestled with the world.
